About the developer...
Daniel L. Haigh is an independent Web developer situated in Evanston, NS, Canada, and completed his last year of studies at Nova Scotia Community College in June of 2007 where he took Information Technology, while concentrating in Web Development. He graduated from high school in June of 2005 and moved to Sydney in September to start building his career path in the computer industry, and has since returned home seeking employment. He is currently awaiting acceptance into the Information Technology program at Cape Breton University (also situated in Sydney), so he can obtain his Bachelor's degree so to further his skills even more.
Ever since he was young, Daniel was amazed with how computers could change lives, while not fully realizing at the time how they were changing his; he started off the usual instant messaging fads and then turned his interests towards image manipulation and Web design. Daniel started off small, working with the basic Web builders at the time (e.g. Homestead, Geocities, Yahoo!, Angelfire, Tripod), and strengthened his skills overtime, slowly learning what a "good" Web site really looked like.
During his youth, Daniel spent countless hours at the Riverdale Computer Center, situated in his home village of Evanston, NS; just like most young individuals of his generation, he was constantly monitoring the people around him and was enthused with what projects the computer center's managers were working on. From simply viewing people and asking loads of questions, Daniel started his basis in the IT industry; it wasn't long after he first entered the center that people were coming to him for advice. He made himself an unofficial volunteer when he was about 15 years old and was dealing with issues like sending of electronic mail, word processing, file management, gaming, disk clean-up, and software/hardware installation, among other things. When he was 18 years old, Daniel was finally given a working position at the computer center, and was appointed the attendant for every Saturday of the week; a short start, but a beginning nonetheless. After proving his worth week after week, he was given the ability to work Sundays as well; working twice a week didn't deter his passion for the center though, so he still came in everyday to make sure the site was on track. There was nothing more mentally stimulating to him then a computer-related question, especially when it was something that puzzled him; through careful exploration, he always came through and satisfied his customers' needs. To Daniel, being the computer center's attendant was hardly even a job; it was more like a "professional hobby" where he got paid (not like the pay was important, since he did these things all the time anyways; getting wages was just a bonus). Sadly enough, Daniel left the computer center in 2005 so he could continue his love for the industry in Sydney, NS, where he would soon take IT at NSCC.
This is when he moved onto the Cape Breton University residence which was on the same grounds as NSCC's Marconi Campus. During his first year at NSCC, he learned more than he ever thought possible; through the teachings of such instructors as Gary Billard, Gary Nolan, and Jim Barrett, Daniel gaining insight into the key factors of the modern Information Technology industry. Some of the courses being offered at the time were: (1) Operating Systems in Windows XP, the leading OS in today's markets, and Unix; he learned how to properly install and manage Windows XP and Mandrake Linux; (2) Business Management where he learned about common trends in IT marketing and e-commerce; (3) Systems Analysis and Design, where he was instructed how to build a system's model from the ground up so all projects are completed with the utmost efficiency and respect; (4) Hardware, where he learned how to build a fully-functioning computer from spare parts; and (5) Website Development, where he got his first real taste of HTML-coding and how Web sites were truly constructed; it was during this course that Daniel knew exactly what area of computers he wanted to end up in...
Given the choice between two concentrations for his second year, Daniel passed on Networking and chose the powerful and artistic complement to his skills, which was Web Development. During this final year of training, he learned about such programming languages as PHP and Java, and such programs as Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady and Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash; on top of that, he also took courses in Web Administration and Professional Development to further fortify his hold on the Web world. Daniel quickly learned that the World Wide Web, particularly the design aspects, gave him the opportunity to blend his two favorite passions: computers and art. He loves designing Web layouts and considers it the most enjoyable part of Web development.
Daniel is currently living in Evanston, NS, and is seeking Web projects so to keep busy and financially stable, and also so he can build up his Web portfolio. He would like any potential clients to check out the Contact page and take a look at his resume.
